Y&R is EXCELLENT So how can you improve on perfection

How can two of the podcast participants claim the Abbots are the core of the show? There is exactly 1.5 Abbotts present. Jack/Colleen. The core families are the Newmans/Fishers. Way down the list we get a breather with Chancellors.

the 2nd male was right about Chloe - unfortunately, it's too late for me to like her now. The writers have no idea what to do with any of their under 30 crowd. It's a pathetic. Lots of talent (on the male side anyway) and no good stories coming out of it.

How would Kay give half of the house to Chloe? Cane's the only remaining Chancellor heir. It's his house.

The problem with Cane and Lily is that the writers don't write these two in line with their histories. Lily is the good heroine. Fine but at some point she needs to be written with some strength. Cane is reserved but at this point, he's worldly and he's had people screw with him, his edge needs to come out more. The pairing could pop a helluva lot more and still remain romantic if Cane was allowed to be more nasty(read: more like his mom) and instead of having Lily wilt under it, let her be turned on by it. It gives lily some depth and allows CAne more storyline possibilities with the big boys.

Bring Victoria Rowell back as Dru. I feel that LML destroy her character and I feel that the Winters have been in humdrums without Dru spunk and fire lite into the family. Eva is ok, but she is not VR. I just feel that Lily needs to be more like her mother instead of this weak, let anyone do anything to her and take it. And Dru is the only character that can go up against Phyllis and made a great battle between them. I feel that the show would have years of s/ls if they bring Dru back.

Recast Colleen. I sorry, but the actress is portraying her is not cutting it. I do believe that they need to get Adrienne Leon back or a actress who can play as a young adult and an Abbott.

Have Jill/Nikki rivalry. I feel that they can be the next Jack/Victor if the writing is right.

Bring back Nina and Chris. They have history with the show and have Phillip III back for the inheritance and battle Cane and Billy for the family fortune. And bring Chris back to look after Phillip's take on the legal matters involving his piece of the pie.

Get Ashley Abbott back in the fold to be involve in taking back Jabot and go after Gloria for the mess involving her family.

Have Noah be a troublemaker for the Newman family. Have him scheme and manipulative to get his parents back together and to have him and Phyllis be on the outs.

Get rid of the Restless style magazine. This s/l doesn't make sense and needs to end, now.

Dishrag or whatever you like to call her is portrayed by one of the best young actresses on the show. If they actually gave Christel Khalil something to do she'd own the scenes, but instead they have Lily sitting around like a doormat. I loved Cane & Lily together they were a refreshing couple, but the writers lost their way. Cane is currently an empty headed moron who is now CEO of a company that shouldn't be his. Lane aren't mismatched, they just aren't written for & this is a new couple that has one of the largest fanbases going. It's amazing how Lily is called whiney, but the ones that are always whining about something they are gushing over. At least the female during the podcast had a lick of sense.

1) His name was Raul, not Raphael.
2) How can you not count the Winters family as one of the core families?
3) Phyllis WAS a "gun-carrying, mustache-twirling villain." She tried to run down Cricket and Paul with her car, kidnapped Michael, tried to burn Diane Jenkins alive, drugged Danny to get knocked up and may or may not have killed Sasha Green. By the way, the character of Phyllis Summers began to be watered down when she joined the corporate fray.
4) Grace Turner was not a supervillain. She was a about as bad as Chloe. She tired to kidnap Cassie, but she never tried to kill anyone.
5) Nate is older than Lily.

So, I guess the most important things are:
#1 Rebuild the Jack/Victor feud
#2 Break up Sharon & Jack and Phyllis & Nick and put them back as they were before.
#3 Bring back the Abbott family!
#4 Katherine isn't Jill's mother.
#5 Bring back Eileen Davidson as Ashley and Victoria Rowell as Dru.

And Luke, don't know why you put Ashley vs. Dru or Ashley vs. Traci in the bringing back thing ... the only thing I want to say about this: Bring all three of them back! That's the best thing they could do.

I like that you guys mentioned that Jack has two sons. Keemo, with Luan, if writers didn't forget her already and Kyle with Diane, who was also a great vixen to the show.

And I agree with Dax, Phyllis was this kind of villain and I hate the fact that they totally forget that and let her be Nick's loving wife now. It was good for the affair, but for more .... NO! Bring back the Phyllis we all know for years ... let her have lied about the paternity test and let Summer's be Jack. Would bring a lot to the show.

Also LOVED that you guys mentioned Brittany!!! And not to forget Mac. Would love to see them both back! Besides, when the writers redo the Katherine/Jill-mother/daughter-thing ... they also could give us back Mac and Billy! They had great potential for a super couple.
And as you guys said, Brittany would be nice for J.T. ... he and Victoria really doesn't work. But when you ask me ... it's also Amelia Heinle that still - after three years - isn't working for me in that role. Sorry, but the only true Victoria is and may will ever be Heather Tom. In that I address you commentary about characters you can't recast ... I think Victoria is that kind of character too.

Last thing I have to say, great podcast guys! Loved it! I want Chloe alive and I want Gloria front burner. Even through they should drop this Abbott family thing with Glo. She just isn't a Abbott. In case of that, like I said ... bring back the real Abbotts (Ashley and Traci).

Throughout this series I've asked on almost every episode for people to choose the one person they would bring back. Asking to choose between Ashley, Dru or Tracey is the same type of question.

for Y&R, I would bring back Drue... Becuase thre was that Drue/Phillis/Sharron rival which would be great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bring back Dru first and foremost, and then Tracy and Ashley if you have too. I've been watching for almost 30 year and frankly Ashley is boring and always was.

The show is better but barely, I agree Jack and Phyllis are nowhere to be seen, we have pod replacing them, hate it, they always made a wonderful team, put them back together.

Either give Lily some spunk or send her back to Paris, where btw, she never learned to speak French correctly. Imagine that.

1.) Bring back Diane Jenkins with Jack's son Kyle in tow and have a teenage Kyle bitter that Jack has played little role in his life, while playing doting stepfather to Noah. Set up Kyle and Noah as rivals. Have Victor move Diane and Kyle onto the ranch incensing both Jack and Nikki. Victor doesn't really care about Diane, nor does he trust her -although he has occasional no strings sex with her -but the sheer joy of using her and Kyle to get at Jack is too much for Victor to pass up. Have Diane also bed and conspire with Adam.

2.) Have Jack and Gloria successfully seize Jabot and actually bond further, just as Jill is hiring Paul to dig up any dirt he can on Gloria. Paul tracks down Jeffrey's ex who reveals the fact that Jeffrey and Gloria have a secret involving some sort of cream. Paul continues to search as Jack and Gloria plan to move Jabot forward. The story climaxes at a Jabot shareholder's meeting where Jill reveals that Gloria tainted a Jabot product sending shockwaves throughout much of the cast. Jack, Katherine, Nikki, Brad, Victor and Ashley all blast Gloria for costing them millions. Gloria is arrested and Christine Blair returns as special prosecutor. When Cricket learns that Michael knew about Gloria's crimes all along, she reports him to the Wisconsin State Bar Association, which begins disbarment proceedings. Lauren also suffers from her association to Gloria, as Fenmore's stock begins to plummet. Lauren's mother Joanne returns to blast Lauren for ever becoming involved with the Fisher-Baldwins. Brad Carlton begins buying up large blocks of Fenmore's stock before ultimately taking control of the company. He offers Lauren an indecent proposal - once again share his bed and he will allow her to remain the company's CEO..

3.) Have Danny Romalotti retire from touring to make a life for himself in Genoa City with Daniel. Danny decides to start his own record label with Karen. Amber couldn't be more thrilled. She immediately has dreams of being Romalotti Records breakout star, but Danny has another star in mind, Colleen. JT also is intrigued by Danny's new venture. Seeing Colleen perform at Neil's club reminds him of his own musical aspirations. He begins playing the guitar again for fun and actually does a duet one night with Colleen. Danny sees this and wants to sign JT immediately, much to Victoria's chagrin. Vicki reminds JT that he's a father now and should focus on more realistic dreams, causing a rift between the newlyweds. Meanwhile Danny wants Colleen and JT to record a song together.

4.) Jana's brain cancer returns and Dr. Olivia Winters is flown in as a specialist. Liv tells a devastated Jana and Kevin she only has months to live. Colleen tries to be there for Kevin and Jana, but Kevin refuses to believe Jana will die. No one can get through to him, not Michael, Daniel, Gloria or Lauren. On her deathbed, Jana asks Colleen to take care of Kevin if anything happens to her. Colleen tearfully promises she will. Jana slips into a coma and Liv announces she won't come out of it. When they talk to Kevin about organ donation he becomes hysterical. "You're not pulling the plug on her!" Jana's aunt (played by Fiona Hutchinson, ex-Jenna, GL; ex-Gabrielle, OLTL) comes to town and gets a court order giving her medical power of attorney - citing Kevin's past history of mental instability. She then tells Liv to take Jana off life support. Kevin comes to the hospital with bombs strapped to himself. He tells Liv that he will blow them all to hell and back if she takes Jana off life support.

Y&R has always been great. Hard to improve on perfection. But here are some thoughts.

1. I thought Sabrina had a LOT of potential. But, oh well.

2. Re-build the Abbott family. Bring back Ashley and Traci. Put them back in the Abbott mansion and Jabot with Jack. I really hate that the Abbott family was destroyed with the introduction of Gloria (and LML).

3. Bring back Drucilla, portrayed by Victoria Rowell. Along with Dru, bring back Olivia, Nate, Mamie, and Lily as portrayed by Davetta Sherwood. Lily, portrayed by Davetta, really seemed like the daughter of Dru.

4. Chloe/Lily could be the next Sheila/Lauren if written correctly.

5. Y&R does rivalries and catfights well. I'm looking forward to the revamped Jack/Victor and KatherineJ/Jill rivalries with the new writers.

6. I miss the even slower days of Y&R, when one day would last two weeks on screen. When Nikki, Jill, Ashley would change clothes like 6 times in a day, change hairstyles as many times in a day. I remember loving looking forward to how Nikki or Ashley would emerge from the staircase each episode to see how they'd look. Silly, huh?

But honestly, nothing Y&R does is terribly wrong, except for those 2 years with LML. There's a reason Y&R stays at number one and it's because it seems to do everything right and stays with the same formula that's worked for the past 30-something years.

Mike saying "I'm coming Elizabeth" was hilarious! ROTFL!

And I have to agree about the character of Ashley. Unless, she comes back to the show w/ an edge and doesn't immediately attach herself to Victor's leg then she'd be more tolerable.

Listening today to the podcast made me remember a story twist I thought about when Summer's paternity question originally was "settled". I found it interesting that Nick got the results, went away to think and then returned to announce that he is the father. At the time, I thought that he found out Jack was the father and lied because he wanted Phyllis and knew there was a good chance of losing her if she knew Jack was the father plus it made it easier to leave Sharon "for his child". If this information came to light it could liven up things considerably -- Jack would want his daughter (hey whatever happened to Kyle?), Sharon would be pissed that Nick wanted Phyllis more, with or without a baby and Phyllis would feel betrayed by Nick yet have to deal with the kharma since she did the same thing to Danny back in the day.

Comparing Chloe to Sheila is such an insult to Kimberlin. Sheila was portrayed by a kick ass actress who had depth. Anyone can drink about 5 redbulls before going to work & play Chloe. Usually you love a character, or you hate them. Chloe is annoying/intolerable which is worse than hate in my book. When the lovers & haters of this particular storyline agree on one thing you know somethings wrong. This character especially the actress needs to go.

Been watching Y&R since it started and have a few comments. Please don't have Nikki and Victor fall in love again - can't stand the old memory bank of previous marriages and romantic moments. It's overdone! Jill needs a makeover, especially her hair - Lily and Cane belong together but both need to get angry enough with Chloe and find out the truth about the "baby" to find the backbone they require to stand up for themselves. Sharon and Nick should work their way back together through Noahs' teen angst , and they should get pregnant, pushing Jack and Phyllis back togehter and Jack finding out the truth about Summmers' paternity. Restless Style will go belly up and Sharon and Nick start a dude ranch for troubled youths (riding, etc.) Don't bring back Ashley as she has always been one of the most boreing character.
Give Amber a break - she's had her problems but would like to see her and Daniel give Phyllis a run for the money. It's a great show or I wouldn't have watched for decades, however it repeats itself too much.
