Ratings July 21 - 25, 2008

Ok with summer in full swing here are the ratings for the soaps for the past 3 weeks. As we can see the CBS soaps are doing a much better this week compared to a couple of weeks ago. Bold & The Beautiful saw the biggest gain with a +222,000 increase in viewers this week compared to the previous week. Days Of Our Lives also saw a large number of viewers tune in with a +209,000 increase in total viewers.

The ABC soaps were not as fortunate with All My Children and One Life To Live stuck in a holding pattern around the 2.0 mark. However General Hospital was the only soap this week to see a drop in total viewers compared to the previous week with a resulting loss of -124,000 viewers.

This is so Right that GH is

This is so Right that GH is loosing his ratings.
GH at the moment is suck!!!!

Please continue to go down

Please continue to go down in the ratings, GH. The show desperately needs an overhaul!!

See this is the thing.

See this is the thing. Everyone talks about how good OLTL is but it seems to be standing still. Just because a show is good doesn't necessarily mean great ratings. Look at the countless amazing shows in prime time that are/have been cancelled. People still rave about Santa Barbara and that show never achieved great ratings success. As much as I want to believe that if the ratings for GH get low enough they will change the writing regime and it will have a huge surge that doesn't mean that it will be the case.

Considering that AMC/OLTL

Considering that AMC/OLTL are below GH in ratings, I doubt that an overhaul will be in the near future for GH.

I find it odd though that Disney has such a laissez faire attitude toward Guza's increase in violence, mob families, and numerous WTF moments during the summer when impressionable minds are home. Apparently, Disney's ideals are relegated to pass on to those who can afford their cable channel.

WORK Y&R!!! The .100,000

WORK Y&R!!! The .100,000 increase in viewers each week from 3.5 - 3.7 shoes that A - the show is getting better and better, hardly perfect or quite there yet but you can hear the changes in the dialogue, the tone, the pacing of story and scenes lately. It has all been a miraculous improvement from the destruction incurred by she-who-not-be-named, B - The hype over the show and the new writing has gotten out there and old viewers are coming back in curiosity. Hopefully, they will be able to keep them there and entice even more. I can already tell that Hogan Sheffer is a great fit for Y&R being that he is a character-development writer and a good plot or story comes from within the character and not outside obstacles. I sense an end to that kind of storytelling. C - I think, next week, we will get to see Thom Racina's script writing and considering her wrote the Ice princess story and made us all fall in love with Luke and Laura, I am expecting high quality daily shows from him and hope the other script writers can follow it up. It is just so nice to see a small reflection of the soap I absolutely love the most. I grew up on Y&R and DOOL despite their airing at the same time in my market. I remember getting a VCR for X-mas one year and that made 2 VCR's in the house so i was able to tape 2 networks worth of shows and even fit in GH when I got home from school. I am not surprised at GH's stagnant ratings because it is the same horrible show now over and over. Mobsters, murder and mayhem - all the reasons I watched "The Soprano's" not GH. And I am not sure how or why that many females are such die-hard fans of GH considering that Guza treats his female characters like pieces of crap. He has victimized every single one of them and they act like they are tough, independent woman when they are really just being used by the men on the show as ragdolls. I am sorry that OLTL is not doing better because, currently, this show drips with such amazing, heartfelt emotion, pounding drama and is just filled with soapy greatness. I love a show I have no prior real past with. That's unheard of, but true. Thanks to DC.com and the podcasts, I converted from GH to OLTL. I thought a lot more people would follow so I am surprised that they aren't doing better. Right now, both GL and DOOL, are so poorly written that I do not think either one has a chance to last another year but we will see. I am not in on the loop of what network renewed what shows but these 2 had better improve really quick or else I am afraid that they will be the first to go when the soaps are weeded out off our TV's.

How can GH be #3!!!!! That

How can GH be #3!!!!! That is very sad.. IT SHOULD BE LIKE LAST, ! I can't believe ATWT's ratings, they should be 3rd Place agian like they where half of the fall, they are doing so good right now! OLTL needs a bigger ratings boost, but i feel that isnt going to happen, because some soap viewers watch it after they watch AMC, and with how bad AMC is right now i think that is what is also hurting OLTL, but i dont get how bad bad bad GH can be #3. DOOL deserves what it has, GL is getting better so i am crossing my fingers... AMC is a chore to watch, so now i read recaps until Pratt takes it over! B&B is good now... Y&R is amazing, i hate that they killed Sabrina, just when i started liking her! ...ATWT is so good right now ... I am in the majority with OLTL,certain days it can be AMAZING and Spectacular, but on days when i have to put up with Starr/Cole, Todd/Marty, they are wasting Susan Haskell!!!!, any scene with Antonio i cant bear to watch, but mainly i hate the Starr/Cole crap, i liked it in the beginning now i cant put up with it! GH is good certain days (days when Sonny & Jason arn't involved are the best but that isnt going to happen) WHEN WILL GH learn that if they dropped the mob in Port Charles, they could most likley beat out B&B in the ratings???

I truly hate this ratings

I truly hate this ratings system...we'll never know how accurate (or inaccurate) it really is.

Re: OLTL...I've been thinking about this lately. I think this show, even as good as it is, would have trouble attracting newer viewers. Because the drama is so character/dialogue-based (as opposed to being action/plot point reliant) it doesn't have as many Wow moments as other soaps. For viewers that know what's going on, it's riveting stuff, but newer viewers are just not going to get a lot of it. Likewise, because it's a slower paced show (which I LOVE), newer viewers might be apt to get bored quickly instead of sticking with it for awhile.

And this is just awful: I have a friend who watches AMC and is getting really aggravated with it and I've been pestering her for months to start watching OLTL, saying it's the best soap on TV right now. Well the other day, she finally took my advice. She tuned in, saw Bo and Rex trapped in 1968 and thought "What is this crap?" and turned it off!! Sad

I tried to put the whole 1968 stuff in context, saying this was a brief story that they're doing for the show's Anniversay, and that it's just a fun nod to history, etc... But the damage was done *sniff* *sniff*

Come on GL, you can do this!

Come on GL, you can do this! You're getting better and better.

Days....well when Days finally wakes up and stops writing this crap and stops destroying their characters, then I'll start cheering for them again. Until then they deserve this. And for my own selfish reasons......Go Ejami.

My problem with OLTL is as

My problem with OLTL is as good as the show is I just don't care about a lot of the characters on this show. I don't care about Jared, Natalie, Starr, Cole, Talia, Antonio, Cristian, John or Sarah. All of these people have major story lines on the show and I could care less what happens to any of them. And your friend watches AMC and IS getting really aggravated. I've been aggravated for years. She's been a lot more understanding and patient with that show than I am.

Yeah season1217, if you

Yeah season1217, if you don't care about those characters I could see how watching OLTL wouldn't be much fun. I don't like Sarah at all... and Antonio and Cristian, well let's just say I call them The Brothers Grim (but Cristian is so HOT I really don't mind him too much Smile )

I'm in the minority, but I'm not crazy about Rex and Gigi. And while the Tess story is entertaining, there are some things I don't like about it.

That said, it's still the only show right now that I don't fast forward through Smile

seasons- ITA! I think OLTL

seasons- ITA! I think OLTL is really written well and has some of the finest actors in daytime, but I really don't care what happens to any of these people. I'm more watching to mock the characters than I am actually catapulted into daytime. I also think that the same amount of people tuning in is equal to the amount of people tuning out. People keep talking about summer vacations and people being gone- but I remember the soaps being on fire during the summer. 40 anniversaries are great- but nothing is really on fire in Llanview- or maybe I just don't care about who's on fire. I can just imagine in a weeks time, they'll be forgiven, punished, or just disappear all together(Miles, Layla, that crazy lady from Saint Anne's).

With Y&R I actually care about that tramp-Amber, and I really don't want to see Jack lose everything he's worked for, even though he's not Mr.Ethical. but Carlotta's diner burns down and I just think, "I guess they won't be needing that set." I keep reading review after review, and thinking, maybe I'm crazy...but day in day out I could just as easily pop in an episode of Californiacation( which is Big Shots with sex scenes). These days the only review I can read/trust in from SoaptownUSA- Craze. He'll give it to me straight.

So glad to see Y&R's ratings

So glad to see Y&R's ratings going up. I am one of those long-time viewers (since 86) who stopped watching during the past two years when the non-Bells were doing the show (and when they wrote off Drucilla). I've been watching again regularly for about four months, and the show feels like home again.
