ITA Luke!!! A strong female character played by a good actress (who developed a vocal fanbase quickly) - so much potential there! And what do they do? Dumb her down, victimize her repeatedly and toss her away like yesterday's trash

While I adore Megan Ward, and certainly don't deny the promise the character showed, I never cared for her relationship with Sonny. There was nothing real about it, Kate wanted Sonny to be somebody completely different, and Sonny can't be anything different.

I'm back in the hospital again,which I watched GH today. What does it say about the story, when I figureds out that Kate was behind it before the commercial? I do have one GH question though, is it me, or is it normal for surgeons with delicate surgeries to stop in the middle of the important life and death surgery to take calls in the ER to update the family and answer questions? No, seriously, has this been addressed on here already?

I agree. kate was a STRONG independent woman. i loved that about her. She wasn't stupid and wasn't a Sonny proper. Nut of course Guza ruined her and made her the victim(how many times was she shot for goodness sakes)to bossy and another annoying Sonny girlfriend.

I couldn't agree MORE! I know I spend a lot of time bemoaning the state of Liason, but the complete and utter destruction of one of the most unique, fun, characters in daytime, Connie Falconeri, aka Kate Howard pisses me off just as much! Why do we cover/watch this show again?

Magan Ward is a true professional for even playing this ignorant crap out. Sometimes I loved Skate,sometimes I wanted her to run for the hills. Either way she was actually a character on this dreadful show that I wouldn't ffw'd through. Combine that with no more Ric Hearst, and thats a wrap for me. How many more months is Guza under probation for because EVERYTHING coming down the pike sounds 100% worse than the garbage i've been watching for the last 5 years? This show sucks hard,and it's time someone from ABC spoke up for once addressed it's angry LOST viewers and explain to us what the effing problem is and where does the buck stop at this little thing they call ABC Daytime Programming!Seriously,at this point hire me, I CANNOT do any worse than this.jmo.

How about this, all of us true GH historians challenge the GH writers to a contest on the shows shows history ....whoever wins gets to write GH from now on. Seriously,this writing is historical incorrect,the characters have lost ALL sense of directions,and they seem to have to have turned my precious PC into an acting school. I want to ask the GH(and AMC)writers how much history have you acquired about the fictional town you're writing for. If any of us know more we should be able to kindly ask them to back the hell away from our show.I forgot to mention that Frons is a douche!jmo.

I totally agree with you Luke. Megan was sacrificed on the altar of Sonny.

I think the writers need to search the net and find one of those soap bibles that they used to have in the 80s-early 90s for each soap. They were great because they gave the whole history of the different soaps from soup to nuts. Each soap had one. This is how I was able to learn about the NBC and CBS soaps (since I grew up watching ABC soaps with my mom). Now I watch all of the soaps and know the history of most of the characters (except the ones that the writers are rewriting).

These bibles should be mandatory reading for all soap scribes.

I totally agree with you, but they dont even get the recent history right so how do we expect them to get the way old history right?

For Real.. Megan Ward has really been shafted by TIIC! She is a Fabulous Actress and deserves way better story than what she has been given on GH!! I only watch GH to see if she will be on that day.. Sadly those days are far and few between.. I hate to say it but.. I would love for her to move on to another show..I want to see her on my screen and hopefully someone from another show would recognize the Great Talent that she possesses and is being wasted sitting on the back burner of GH!! Love ya Megan!!

THANK YOU! Thank you, thank you! for writing this piece! The entrance of Kate Howard literally single handidly hook-line and sinker pulled me back into GH after really not finding much to like for nearly twenty years. Sonny never appealed to me until, she, Kate, burst through Sonny's office and THEIR backstory (NOT HOlivia's) in Bensonhurst was brilliant. Sonny was different with her. (Even Mo was different. He appeared to show Megan respect and when he smiled on-screen you believed it) While I adored Robert and Anna way back when, SKate, by far my favorite pairing of all time. A million ways they could have made it work long term. But, alas, the writers are fixated on the mob madness, endless violence, obsessed with certain characters, and short-sighted to see an independent successful woman also happy in a relationship.

Carly had moved on to Jax and I think most can agree that was finally a good fit for Carly and time for a break from Carson. Kate was the perfect compliment to Sonny and a chance for Sonny to explore something outside of the mob - again, a million opportunities lost as Luza reverted back to his mob ways and then some. (it is disturbing and insulting what is going on now between Sonny and Elvira)

I was like an addict from May 2007, the moment Kate was introduced, until basically Jan. 2009 when I pretty much could tell Luza had his sights set on propping his alliegence to SJB and suddenly the show has done nothing but revolve around her - zero appeal. I just cannot stand watching the way they have undermind, discredited, thrown Kate/Megan under the bus to so obviously prop others with zero justification and through horrid writing. At times it feels like not only the knife twisting in the back (Claudia MOC), but salt in the wound (Olivia).

At the minimum, following the unjustifiable and absurdly moronic break up of Sonny and Kate, Kate should have been given a new romantic pairing. Ric would have been kick-ass. Jax could have been interesting. Or if they are going to go out and hire a guy like Seabiscuit surely they could hire a semi-decent guy to have come in from Kate's past and swept her off her feet.

Megan Ward - the ONLY reason I continue to follow GH. Daytime Confidential the only third party source worth a damm. Again, thank you for writing this piece. Megan rocks!

Thanks for this article Luke. GH has been wasting the talents of Megan Ward for months now. Kate is an extremely fascinating and popular character. For GH to put Kate on the sidelines is absurd !!

We want the strong and independent Kate back and featured in her own story !!

I really wasn't a Kate fan because I thought that she was a snob, but Megan Ward was a great actress and pull it off and the made Sonny likable. But the decimation of the character and the sexist way of it is soo wrong on so many ways that gave it her all for the character and the show to do this to her. I wish her luck on her future endeavors and leave GH with a future on another soap or prime time and to say to Frons, Screw YOU!!!

Nothing against SBr, but, GH should have dropped her last year when it became evident ClaudHo was not working and given us more Kate...

I dont see it as an either or proposition. Why cant they write Claudia in a better way AND keep Kate. Kate and Mac might have been good together. How about an eating disorder for Maxie that Mac and Kate come together to break. Or maybe have her turn out to be a high-end jewel thief by night and have Lucky catch her.

Wow great piece, Luke. Thank you for acknowledging GH's monumental waste of Megan Ward's tremendous talent in diminishing the character of Kate Howard.

It was Kate that brought me back to GH after I had given it up due to mob fatigue. Kate that finally made me interested in Sonny as someone outside said mob. Sonny and Kate were unique and different and old movie romantic. And dare I say, Maurice Benard looked energized working opposite Megan Ward.

Kate, alone, was such a refreshing change for the show and I have yet to understand why there is no room on the canvas for such an interesting, complex, smart and independent woman? And why Kate's history and story has inexplicably been handed over to her cousin?

It is complete and utter disrespect to Megan Ward and all she has brought to the character and the show and a slap in the face to the fans who dared invest in that new and fresh character and her story.

Well, lesson learned. I won't be misled again and I refuse to invest anymore time in this show. I will continue to watch only Megan's scenes. I owe her at least that much for all the entertainment she has provided over the past two years. I did thoroughly enjoy the ride until they hit the brakes for no apparent reason.

Kate was a strong woman and Guza and Frons hate that about her so they got rid of her.

Loved the original Kate as she first appeared on the show. Strong, independent, professional. (I think that was the scab writers during the strike). She brought out a softer and more likable side of Sonny. Their shared history from Bensonhurst was very romantic and the s/l of exporing her evolution from Connie to Kate had endless possibilities. But them Guza and Co. returned. The charcater assassination began. With the hiring of SJB, the character was doomed. Such lost potential. Good Luck MW.

Thanks for writing such truth. Kate was a great character & GH is ruining her by basically forgetting who this character is & destroying her integrity. It makes absolutely no sense. I wish GH higher ups would get a clue like so many of you bloggers & critics have seemed to regarding Kate Howard & Megan Ward.

If the PTB do not bring her back, I don't think I will watch this show anymore. Even outside of soaps, I don't think any two fictional characters were brought to life (maybe Vicki and Jake from AW) like Sonny & Connie. When the characters talked about their past in bensonhurst, I truly believed in the reality of it. I loved how Kate stood up against Carly, and Megan is so talented. I love Olivia too, and the three of them (Sonny, Kate & Olivia) were great together.

Bring Kate back NOW!!!!

Thank you Guza gave me the joy to watch the show for past two years and good that I kept most of them and too bad I didn't keep the tape for the scene that Kate walked in Sonny's office and demanded to borrow the phone.
They had a lot of funny sccene and happy scene together.
