Gina Tognoni Does "Venice"
By Jillian Bowe on September 20, 2009

Crystal Chappell tweeted exciting news to fans of her upcoming web series, Venice. According to Chappell,

We're very excited to have the lovely and talented Gina Tognoni join Venice. She'll play Owen's love interest, Sami. Sending Gina T. love!
Tognoni and Daniel Cosgrove (Owen; Venice) as love interests? Hmm, this could be very interesting....

Talk about a strong cast. We get Crystal, Jessica, Keener, Danny C., Jordan Clark, Hillary B Smith, Michael Sabatino and now Gina T. Amazing cast of amazing actresses and actors. And there are more coming. If anyone can pull this off its Crystal the rest of Team Venice.

I adore Gina Tognoni! She has great chemistry with Daniel Cosgrove, this will be such fun.
I also love how Chappell pushed and pushed for "Guiding Light" to be spun into a web series but was rejected so she just goes out and creates her own with some of the best members of the "Guiding Light" cast. Awesome! And I hope there are more GL alumni on the way (minus a certain passive-aggressive former chief of police, cuz, really, we've ALL seen enough of him, nice guy though the actor who played him may be) because GL really had an exceptional group of actors working for them, saving the writing at nearly every turn.
I hope she gets some actors from "Days" to come over, too. John Aniston? Peter? Wally? Whatcha boys doin'?

Since the actors are all volunteering, I wonder how Crystal will be able to hold the cast together. The webisodes are only 5 to 10 minutes. So, I wonder how they plan to monetize the show to put money in folks' pockets eventually.

Venice will be outstanding adding Gina is the cherry on top of a delicious cake. I can't wait until it happens. I surely hope that this show grows and expands big time. I for one would pay a subscription fee to see it and I know there are thousands of others who feel the same way!

Really fun news on the heels of a very sad week of loss last week. Kudos to Crystal & Co. for seizing on the opportunity that Proctor & Gamble completely WASTED in not taking GL to the web. It won't be GL, but it feels like the new spirit of creativity, innovation, and love of the soap genre could lead to something big in the long run.
This feels like kind of innovation that's true to Irna Phillips original spirit.
I hope it becomes a commercial & critical success, so that CBS & P&G regret their short-sightedness. Best Wishes to all at Venice. Will definitely watch.
