Crystal Chappell: "DAYS Wasn’t Even on my Radar"

In an interview with TV Guide Canada's Nelson Branco, Crystal Chappell talks about Natalia, not being able to take Otalia to As the World Turns, her return to Days of Our Lives and the rumors she and Deidre Hall didn't get along.
TVG: If it wasn’t for you and Jessica, I doubt I would have watched GL at all this past year. You made the show bearable. I know The Young and the Restless was your first choice post-GL, and they wanted you, but unfortunately they have an abundance of actresses in your age range. I have to admit I was a tad surprised you didn’t parlay your buzz factor and unbelievable talent to the big screen or prime time.CC: It’s not out of the picture at this point! [Laughs] Gary Tomlin is a friend of mine. To be honest with you, DAYS wasn’t even on my radar at that point. But I’m glad I made the decision to join DAYS. I’m so happy to be a part of DAYS and it’s a really comfortable place for me to be at. DAYS has been unbelievably accommodating when it comes to my web series. DAYS is also dark 15 weeks out of the year, so that allows me to do other projects. We’ll see what happens. I feel very lucky these days because there aren’t a lot of parts for women my age. And fun parts, for that matter. And Carly is fun!

The other part of the interview that is key is Ellen Wheeler wanted Otalia to kiss but was overruled by TPTB.
So, we now know that it was NOT Ellen Wheeler who prevented physical intimacy between Olivia and Natalia. [Updated]It was P&G (see HunterForrester's comment below).

I read that to, why in the world would of CBS done that? They had already canceled the show was it in a way to maybe just maybe hurt there chances at a pickup? I remember more people complaining about the non kisses did they think it would maybe cause GL to get bad press? I'm glad she finally cleared the issue up with Deidre and all the issues she had while doing DAYS and OLTL and that she came out of it a stronger person.

The interesting part is how she says CBS had to approve storylines first. Which clearly indicates that Wheeler wasn't coming up with her stories and doing what the hell she wanted. I'm sure CBS dictated things themselves and what the hell did they approve anyway, besides Otalia no story back then should really have been okay-ed without saying "can't you do much better?". Did CBS really expect good ratings with her "stories"? And some people still refuse to blame CBS... I'm not defending EW at all, but her stories shouldn't have been approved, save Otalia and a few other things..

So how is it that CBS allows Luke and Noah to kiss?

It was P&G not CBS. Of course, all networks have say in stories and must approve a bible along with the owner of the serial. I added a line in the interview to make it clear that while it wasN't Ellen personally, it was her bosses at Telenext. CBS is gay crazy, they wouldn't have killed the kisses.

Again, so how is it that P&G allows Luke and Noah to kiss?

I have to wonder Season1217 if it wasn't because they were pretty much done with GL maybe they just didn't want the storyline to end well since they weren't bringing the characters over to ATWT they probably didn't want to take any heat from the Otalia fans for that so they put the heat so to speak on the current storyline so we wouldnt take much notice on anything else thats all I can think of at any rate wish we could get someone to interview them (hooked up to a lie detector machine of course)

Hard to gauge P&G's motives: fear of producing too many gay stories; fear of female backlash; whatever.
Obviously, P&G is not afraid of not having people of color on ATWT. (As much as I like ATWT these days, sucks that no brown folks are on the screen. Lien, Jade, Derrick, etc.)

CC is a true professional. The "kiss" question has been asked and politely answered too many times. CC saw the writing on the wall and created Venice. Finger pointing is a waste of time. Kudos to CC for clearing up the DH roomer. It is also refreshing for a top soap actress to admit losing her sh$t for a few years but in the end it made her stronger.

gldaysoltlgh,
Have to disagree with you. I'm glad the kiss question was asked because Ellen Wheeler has been blamed and pilloried mistakenly for preventing the characters from kissing. That wasn't fair to Wheeler. It damaged Wheeler's standing amongst many Otalia fans. No one should have to live as the victim of false accusations.

Nuke wasn't allowed to kiss forever, too. Remember the kissing ban. They had to finally relent. And all their sex scenes are off screen.

True but the ban happened after they let them kiss numerous times. They were more amorous when Noah was still claiming to be straight than when they became a couple but they at least got a FEW kisses in before the dry spell.

you know Crystal Chappell and the Kardashian sisters are running neck and neck on overkill....no one cared about anything she had to say until she kissed another woman on a soap opera!!! the 15 minutes of fame are long over!!!

mll1206,
CC may be over for you but not for her fans..
P.S.
CC owes her career revival to Ellen Wheeler. Were it not for Otalia, she would not be this loved.

Thats true, I'm not disputing that EW did create Otalia (according to JLH) I'm thankful for that. It is true that Otalia rejuvenated her career and she has been smart in every interview she's done. I wouldnt compare her to the Kardashian sisters though CC actually has talent and has worked her but off for people to care about what she says.

I see from now on "the kiss" will surpass "buried alive" as the thing Crystal will be asked about in every interview. Were you told they would kiss, why didn't they kiss, when should they have kissed, who stopped the kiss. the kiss, the kiss, the kiss.
So, where were we on the blame o'meter now? In this interview apparently Wheeler is let off the hook, leaving P&G or CBS. Hmm..in other interviews the writer took CBS's side and blamed Wheeler. Can't remember which interview it's all a blur now. oy vey!

So it was Telenext who censored the kisses? *Weird.*
