Do you think these showrunners get a bonus from the networks to run these soaps into the ground and make them unwatchable so they can be cancelled?

I think writing Phillip off for now is a wise move. Thom Bierdz really wanted the story to work, but something just didn't click. Not sure if it was the fact that "Phillip left his family because he's gay" didn't make him very admirable or the fact that the writing team cooled to writing for a gay character, but it wasn't going over. At least this way they can bring Phillip back down the line if they have the right story.

Jack: Please, don't let this turn into another "Jack gets crapped on while everyone else and their twin brother with an agenda gets the gold" story. Been there, done that. Also hoping that this isn't a way to keep Jack in a holding pattern until the Mustache returns and they do "Victor stomps Jack part 1 million."

Paul/Nina: It's about time!

Scott, I agree with EVERYTHING you wrote! Kudos.

I, personally, did not take to the Phillip storyline because he was written in a very brazen and self righteous fashion. He leaves a bad taste in my mouth, and I become upset every time I see Nina hanging on to him as if they are the soap version of "Will & Grace." I really wanted to see the Chancellor women deal with Phillip's deception, as opposed to just a couple of scenes where they're pissed. Then, everything's fine.

Also, you know what else hurt this storyline in my opinion? The fact that Chance is so syrupy sweet. There is no depth. No dimension. He's the archetype of a boring good guy. Imagine how great the story would have been if Chance had a bit of an edge to him. What if he outwardly hated Phillip? What if he put him down and belittled him for being gay? What if the writers had taken us on a journey from hatred and resentment to his acceptance?

Shoulda, coulda, woulda at this point, I guess.

Y&R is still bad. Last year, Y*R was on a roll with Kay's/Marge's death and funeral and the Jabot takeover and the writing was on point. Now the show is crap and I just can't tolerant most of the characters at this point. The only good thing is Deacon and Phyllis and you know tiic won't go there. There needs to be some behind the scenes change with this show.

It's a shame that they felt the need to re-write the Phillip history while using the original P3 portrayer. This whole scenario was a train wreck from the beginning. First of all, there's at least a 10 or 12 year age difference between the actors who we were supposed to believe were at some point masquerading as the same person, P3. Then there's the issue that the original P3 portrayer is not a strong actor. Sorry, but it's true. Is there no one left on the show's staff from the 80s who would have remembered that? Watching him walk into a room to say "Good Morning" to someone is painful. There's just no way he could have pulled off the meaty scenes this story required -- if done right. So as much blame as the writers deserve for the stupidity of late, they cannot be faulted for this botchery. Credit should go to casting or producers or whomever chose to bring the original P3 back.

I am so disappointed that they are writing Thom out. I know he is not the best actor but I was hoping he and Phillip could establish a decent relationship and have some closure. Nice going Y and R!

I saw the Paul/Nina storyline coming. Everything else is pretty boring.

Okay I think I will tune back in for Paul and Nina.

Thom Bierdz is gone! Yaaaay.
Because he cannot act.
Of course, he I assume he was rusty.
But the rust never rubbed at all.
Every time I see Thom on my screen,
I want to scream - 'Thom for jeez
sake - Act!!!!'

In my opinion if Thom did a better
job at acting, then maybe the story

Poor Phillip! I want him and Thom on the show. There was such a build up, and then NO payoff, and then he just fell off the face of the Earth. Ridiculous. They should've just left him dead.

LOVE that Nina is in the spoilers. At least Maria Bell seems to really like Tricia Cast.

I feel sorry for Gina if the rumours about her are true.

So P3 was a epic fail, when will they learn over their, I was hoping that it would work since Chance never knew him, plus I thought he would be the love interest for Rafe.

siomonstuart2003, you are probably right that TPTB won't go there with Deacon/Phyllis. On Twitter, I compared the situation with those two to Brooke/Deacon on B&B: two actors with great chemistry who I knew would click together, but the story that TPTB put together killed it, With B&B, the problem was because of the "Brooke gets pregnant by her son in law" vibe. There were a dozen other ways Brooke/Deacon could have worked, but the one they chose left a bad taste that still lingers 7 years later. Phyllis/Deacon is the same thing. I can buy Phyllis empathizing with Deacon's desire to protect his son, but the guy took so much delight in emasculating, humiliating and manipulating her son during his plan that I just can't imagine those two in any kind of relationship. The Phyllis I know, who protects her son like a tigress, wouldn't go there. The whole Terroni story was a wreck, but they can't just erase it from our memories now that it's done. Better luck with Sean Kanan's next story, Y&R - that is, if he has one (and I hope he does).

One story that has potential is the Chancellor IPO thing. Like siomonstuart2003 also said, last year's Jabot takeover was on fire, and this could be more of the same. My only fear is that it will turn out to be another case where Jill, Ashley, Adam and who knows who else come out on top from the IPO with Jack left in the dirt, ripe for another Victor stomping. There's still time, Y&R. Change gears on this while you still can, since it will help you get out of the rut you're in.

I hear you, reggyreg. I know someone else mentioned Thom's acting during his first stint on the show, and I remember being very critical of him when he first came on the show, too. He did have a one note performance. But he did have fan appeal and he did get better over time; he wasn't Emmy caliber by any means, but I could see why Y&R would keep him around.

That's why I really hoped, when I heard he was coming back, that it would be a good thing. I had been waiting for something to break with the Cane story since I grew tired of seeing the perfect, long-lost progeny fall into a CEO job at Jabot because Mommy put him there, and I had hopes that Phillip's return might shake that up. Well, it did shake things up with Cane for a while and it brought Nina back with a now-SORASed Phillip IV. But the execution didn't carry the idea and they decided to just toss it out completely. The only good thing is that maybe they can rethink the story to find a way to sell it and bring Thom/Phillip back at some point rather than just burying him in the sand.

The Gina rumour is something like this:

Gina attacks (either physically or verbally) Kevin for being a crazed criminal. Ryder comes to his rescue, making him look heroic, and Gina is sent to the loony bin. Daniel and Amber take over the Athletic Club.

I agree that Phillip 3 rising from the "dead" was weak. I just don't like the fact that they are using this cattle rustlers bulls%^t story as the reason he is leaving Genoa City. I do hope they bring him back like they do Brock from time to time. I don't think the writers should just forget about Phillip 3.

Thank you for responding. Why would they do this? Gina is hardly ever seen and there are other reasons they could use besides her being sent to the loony bin that would allow Daniel and Amber to take over the Athletic Club. I hope that it is only a rumor. If it is true Y and R is in big trouble!

Sparing you all my usual 'let's be positive' about Y and R stuff, as there does appear to be much astray onscreen. Two noteworthy things that are happening, though: TPTB listened though (PC s/line), and Victoria and JT are temporarily written out, albeit for the offscreen pregnancy, BUT could this be an opp to recast Victoria? Showed promise with their recent troubles.
Just glad all bloggers during this period kept the comments about story, and it didn't end up being anti-gay. I think a lot of us were thrilled with our 80's star return, and would prefer to quietly watch the s/line fade out, as it's just kinda sad. All the very best to Thom Bierdz.
So much unused, awesome talent on Y and R - hope it comes together! I believe it will!

Another Y&R week put to bed and not really all that much happened. The show still really bugs me but somehow does manage to hold my attention, maybe because I now enjoy getting so riled.

Here are some things that bug me:

Victor bugs me now even though he is not around for a while. His revenge cycles get annoying. He should be harbouring some good will because he does have a life saving new heart from an unexpected source in his chest. Too bad you can't repossess organ donations.

Nick bugs me because he is so stupid, self centered, hypocritical and unreasonable.

Victoria bugs me for the same reasons.

Jack bugs me because he is so unreasonably down on Billy for not much reason. Maybe he should reflect on his past crimes and misdemeanors in comparison. I do want to see Jack pay for being the mirror image of Victor.

Sharon bugs me because she is just like Nick and Jack.

Adam bugs me because I just don't know where that character is going and how he can have a future.

Billy bugs me because he is annoyingly unforgiving and confused, but he does not deserve Jack's disdain. I can't believe the grief he is receiving from all around for publishing articles that, even if a bit tacky, are completely true.

Cane bugs me because his whole story line makes no sense to me at all. That character never had that future in store and the switch regarding Phillip came out of left field and most certainly was not originally story boarded that way.

Nina bugs me but she has her reasons I suppose for being the histrionic gal she is right now.

Ryder bugs me because that actor should probably have been Chance.

Chance bugs me because he is now seems to be THE GPD and is incredibly boring and not the fire Chloe needs.

Neil bugs me because he is so one dimensional and never changes facial expressions. He needs some depth.

Y&R bugs me because the few upcoming story-lines seem too tenuous. I so hope that the persistent rumours floating around in here do not come to fruition. The cycles grow tiring. The only character I am suddenly wondering about right now is Abby's friend and what she might really be all about. Otherwise there actually seems to be more drama going on in here now than on the soap itself.

I'm not shedding any tears over Phillip leaving town. The story they came up with to bring him back was horrible. The whole I-abandoned-my-infant-son-because-I'm-gaaaaaayyyy just smacked of selfishness. On top of that, they made the whole Cane/Delia/Billy debacle that we suffered through the year before totally worthless with the lame-o Cane-lied-and-switched-the-test-results-to-keep-Phillip's-secret story. The whole thing stank all the way around, including the haphazard way they were trying to redemn Chloe, while cutting Cane down at the same time.

Sending Phillip away is hopefully a step in the right direction. I would hate to come back six months later and find out that half the stories we're watching now were worthless too. C'mon writers.

Wasn't Cricket that nice, victimized, sugar and spice, goody two shoes; Phillips true love? Even in the Y&R universe it is kind of doubtful that she could go through such a character change to become a manipulating villain. Also remember that Lauren mentioned a few weeks back that Ryder made her blood run cold and only one other person had made her feel that way.

(Now if I could only figure out how to enter the quotes with the bold quote symbols that some of you manage)

So, I read about the Cricket rumour too, and I can tell you where it came from. The site said that Cricket wanted revenge on Phyllis for mowing down Paul. she was apparently raped by Tom Fisher at a very young age and went off screen to have RYder. She wants revenge on Michael Baldwin too. I don't know all the back story here guys so I'm not sure if this works or not. And is it wrong of me to post these spoilers from another source without quoting them? I'm really not sure what the protocol here is so please enlighten me! Should I link to the site??
