Breaking: New Malcolm Winters Cast on Y&R!

It's official folks! The Young and the Restless has cast Darius McCrary as the new Malcolm Winters, according to Entertainment Weekly. McCrary, best known for his role as Eddie Winslow on the hit 90's sitcom Family Matters, is set to debut on December 29, 2009. He signed a multi-year contract and replaces the ever popular Shemar Moore in the role.

How dreadful...how in the world can he be Lily's dad when he is only 33 in real life? Also, he isn't attractive and I could never ever ever see him with Dru or Olivia or friends with Big Red. This casting is an EPIC FAIL.
It is kinda ironic that he and Bryton will be co-starring again.

WHAT THE WHAT Y&R? Was Jelel White too busy? Next well have Kelli Shananaye Williams as the new Dru and Jo Marie Peyton as Mayme. I just seen the great Monti Sharp to a blink and miss spot on Modern Family so he's out there in LA so I assume they didn't want to go w/a powerhouse Emmy winning African American actor. I hope Darius is good, b/c like Bryton, I grew up w/Family Matters, but again my initial reaction is what the what and no. Shemar Moore is having a good laugh on set of Criminal Minds as we speak.

This recast is awful. I agree with all. I wonder if the guy who played Noah on Days of Our Lives is still acting? He would have been perfect. They need someone who is half-white to play Malcolm basically. Both Shemar Moore and Kristoff St. John are clearly of both white and black ancestry. What a joke! To me, Y&R keeps getting worse and worse. Days of Our Lives will be the only soap to get my viewership.

Malcolm is a hard character to recast, imo. Shemar is so recognizable in role. So for them to cast someone who is the complete physical opposite of Shemar Moore,there's bound to be a WTF reaction to it. Once he gets on screen and starts in the role, I may feel differently, but all I can say now, is WTF?

I am upset about the casting choice because I have seen Darius in other projects besides Family Matters and no sir he isn't that good!
Plus when you recast a pivotal/iconic role like Malcolm Winters you don't completely make the casting choice unrecognizable from the previous protrayor. It's already going to be a hard sell recasting Shemar Moore and by totaling changing the appearance of the character is just not going to work.
When Michelle Stafford left the role of Phyliss they got Sandra Nelson who looked very similar to her. When Eileen Davidson left the role of Ashley they got Brenda Epperson or whatever her name was and she had a strong resemblance to ED.
Another thing. Malcolm is supposed to be Lily's biological father. Darius McCrary is 33. Umm yeah you do the math...just not buying it!
When Shemar Moore left the show he took almost a million viewers with him and then you recast his character with a former 90s child actor?! Come on...not buying it!

Y&R casting, MAB needs their arses beat for this. He looks NOTHING like Shemar Moore and is too young to play the role of Malcolm. And what are they doing with the recent castings? William Russ? Now Darius McCrary? Its like they are going back to my childhood and casting all these people from the ABC TGIF sitcoms. IMO, Aaron D. Spears (Justin, B&B) would've been perfect to play Malcolm as he looks very similar to Shemar. Y&R needs to get off this trip with being obsessed with being primetime stars. B/c guess what Clementine ain't working and I am not going to put all my faith into these other two. EPIC FAIL, Y&R!

My initial reaction is that he's not handsome like Shemar Moore, but Shemar is a terrible actor, so maybe Darius will act the part better. I hope so. They need to bring Victoria Rowell back ASAP and have her snap her family back into shape, and ship off some of the Scooby Gang kids.
