DC #484: ABC Grave Robbers and Skeletons
On today’s ABC episode of the Daytime Confidential podcast Luke, Regan and Eye on Soaps’ Belinda (The View From the Recliner’s Edge) discuss the latest storylines and news for the week of November 9, including:
More fan favorites return to All My Children for the 40th Anniversary. Julia Barr, Eden Riegel, Eva La Rue, Leven Rambin and more are set to return. Therefore the question becomes, can Chuck Pratt whip AMC into shape so that lapsed fans who tune in will have reason to stick around? Is there someone missing from the line up of returnees who you want to return? BethAnn Bonner makes her Pine Valley debut. Is it hard to watch and believe the Zach and Kendall storyline knowing that Thorsten Kaye isn’t making the move to L.A.? Annie pretends to fake the loss of a baby only to find out she’s actually pregnant. How original.
Chad Brannon is returning to General Hospital for one episode. Luke is sick of the smug, spoiled Michael Corinthos III, but Regan loves this Michael. What do you think of him? Jonathan Jackson has had some time to settle back into the role of Lucky, but Regan isn’t sure she’s liking this version of Lucky. Hear her explain why. Is Dante’s secret identity the worst kept secret in town or would that be Jake’s paternity? Everyone and their mother seems to know–or will soon find out–who he really is. Please tell us GH isn't leading up to an Ethan and Kristina pairing.
Bad ass Mitch Laurence has returned to shake up the citizens of Llanview’s lives. Were Jessica and Natalie’s reaction too over-the-top? Was it dissapointing to see Rex find out who his father is? Couldn’t the revelation have waited until Rex returned to Llanview so that we could see more people’s reactions all at once? Marcy gave birth to her miracle baby in a dramatic scene, but we’re happy she finally has a child. All this and much more on today’s show!

I have ZERO faith in Charles Pratt with regards to the 40th episode of All My Children. He doesn't know these characters well enough to do anything special with them.
I admit, I am excited at the prospect of seeing Julia Barr back again. However, knowing Pratt and his underlings, she will simply come back and say "I've been travelling abroad", and then nothing else. No mention of ANYTHING. Why was she not at STUART'S funeral?
Charles Pratt can write scandalous, outrageous stories and murder, and death, and all kinds of horrible things. I like him with that respect. it's the heartfelt stuff, the emotional ringers, the tear jerking moments...Pratt has no concept of this.
The show seriously needs to consider hiring another Head Writer. I am not saying toss Pratt, but there needs to be some kind of balance. They need to go back and find one of the older writers to help write the real emotional stuff. Pratt can pen the action scenes, and the sweeps baby stealings, but there needs to be someone who can write the "real" stuff.
If they really want to fix AMC...they should pull a "Bobby Ewing" and make the past 5 years a dream, or a NOVEL that JANET is writing in prison. This would give them a chance to retool some of the more heinous storylines.
I don't mean change everything, I just mean erase some of the horrible corners characters have been painted into, and add more balance to the show.
GH
I am only a casual GH fan, but I have watched off and on since the 90's. I am absolutely not impressed by Jonathan Jackson anymore. Just as Erin Torpey(EX-Jessica OLTL) was teen Jessica on OLTL, Jonathan Jackson was TEEN LUCKY. The character is not a kid anymore. Bree Willliamson is ADULT JESSICA and Greg Vaughn was ADULT LUCKY.
JJ looks and ACTS like a teenager...I don't believe him anymore. He looks so little compared to everyone else on the show, and I think his ship has sailed. Fantastic actor, but his time as Lucky I feel was over the first time.
OLTL
John Paul Lavosier doesn't act, he just jerks his head around, blinks about 100 times, and then falls flat now. The steam is slowly letting out of his engine. I know he is not cool with the storylines he is given, but he has to step it up.

I TOTALLY agree...personally, I think they should go back to before they unaborted Erica's baby and we found out that Tad would kill somone by burying them alive. The stuff the predates those events by a few years wasn't the greatest, but to me those were the turning points.

Please, like Michael would be any different if AJ raised him. He'd still be a spoiled kid with an attitude problem who thinks he can get away with everything because he was a Q and rich. Please he'd be exactly the same, mostly likely a drunk like AJ. AJ sucked big time and I'm glad he's dead and buried and not coming back. I cheered so loud when AJ was hooked on meat hook, watched the scene a thousand times.
People act like Michael would of been the next John Paul 2 if raised by AJ or the Q's. No he wouldn't, he'd be a spoiled brat and ass just like all the Q's before him.
I edit my comment because I ws having computer problems, so not all of it came out.

NiCo was hotter than Niz....WHAT!
Nik and Liz are burning up the screen. They have that hot chemistry and it's amazing. Two best friends who are so comfortable with each other and eventually feel in love is a great storyline. I will give the writers props for that. I don't like how they are making that Liz has this long time affair with Jason when she didn't.
Also this storyline is more like Stefan/Laura/Luke. Not Starvos/Laura/Lucky. Laura was actually torn between Luke/Stefan for a minute.
This Carly is a hypocrite. When Dexter Jr was lying up in the hospital, she was apologizing to Liz for not telling everyone Jason was Jake's father. She said Liz made a good choice. Now she's saying she hates Liz for keeping Jake away. Carly is stupid. Dexter Jr is annoying. Yeah he may be a good actor but those freakin kids should not be on all the time. I just can't wait for Ethan/Kristina eventually hook up. I heard they are doing a redux of Jason/Liz the early years.
OLTL sucks! I hate what they are doing to Ross

The podcast seems really more dimmed down when Jamey Giddens isn't there. I like his humor and silliness!
But still a good podcast as usual
