Tyler Perry on How His Late Mother Wanted to "Live Like Mrs. Chancellor" on Y&R

Actor/director/screenwriter/producer/author Tyler Perry was among Barbara Walters' 10 Most Fascinating People of 2009 special Wednesday night. When asked what he was most proud of, one of the most powerful black men in Hollywood mentioned CBS Daytime's The Young and the Restless.

The fact that I am able to take care of my mother. That is the thing that makes me the most proud. She used to talk about Ms. Chancellor growing up on The Young and the Restless. She's like, "If I could live like Ms. Chancellor, if I can have a house and a maid," and she has all those things. That is my proudest accomplishment because to see all that she's gone through and endured, and to still be.... That is what I'm most proud of.

Perry's mother, Maxine Perry died on Dec. 9.

Love Madea and Tyler gave Y&R great publicity and they need to get its act together with the black s/l and bring back Victoria Rowell and fix these horrible s/ls.

I saw that last night and got a big smile on my face when Tyler said that. To me, it should be a reminder to the excecs that TV viewers watch soaps and relate to them, and have for decades, and to not take advantage of that is to ignore audiences.

They should try to get him to be a writer for them, or even a consultant for the Winters storylines. He writes so well for all people, while not making black people act too black or too white, just real (not counting Madea, although I have known a few women like that).

I too laughed out loud when Tyler said that about KChancellor.  He was charming.

Wow, that's sweet. It shows how very influential soap operas are throughout the whole world and why we need to take better care of them.
I'm very sorry for Mr. Tyler's loss.
