Austin Peck Clarifies ATWT Demise: "It Was Story-Driven"
Submitted by Luke Kerr on October 2, 2009 - 3:51pm
As the World Turns' Austin Peck talked with Michael Fairman in the latest edition of Soapside at the Advocate.com and clarified the circumstances surrounding his exit.
I spoke with Austin this week. He wanted to clarify that his ATWT demise has nothing to do with his being "fired."“I think when people see what is coming up with the story line [which facilitates my exit from the show] they will see that there was a lot of time and effort put into it. It was not a, 'Hey, we need to get rid of somebody.' It was story-driven, and it is just sad that my character has to be at the end of it. I think it’s the best story line I have seen them do in a long time, and some of the best work I have seen Terri Colombino [Katie] do for a long time. Julie Pinson [Janet] and Michael Park [Jack] also are terrific, as you will see. ... And while at the same time I am flattered to be a part of it, I am sad that I ended up on the cutting room floor! Everybody at the show has been loving, kind, and supportive, and they have expressed their shock and bewilderment at the decision by the show to end Brad. They have been really kind to me.”

Kathryn Hays and Don Hastings Work Magic on ATWT
Submitted by J Bernard Jones on August 12, 2009 - 5:12pm
In another generally well-crafted episode of As the World Turns, Wednesday's show featured several fine performances including Julie Pinson (Janet), Tom Degnan ("Riley"/Adam), and, yes folks, Marnie Schulenburg (Alison). However, it was two of ATWT's most beloved and revered veterans who taught a masters class in acting: Don Hastings and Kathryn Hays.
Hastings is not regularly recognized by the soaparatti, likely because his style is so laid back and naturalistic that it can generally be misconstrued as not being acting at all. In fact, I think Hastings' talent, like so many other daytime veterans, is taken for granted. On the contrary, it is the understated ease which Hastings brings to the role that can ground even the most outrageous of scenes, not the least of which occurred not too long ago when Hasting's Dr. Bob Hughes had to explain with a straight face how a microchip the size of an iPhone had been plucked out of Paul Ryan's brain. Trailer: The Bluetooth Virgin
Submitted by Lisa K. on July 21, 2009 - 8:00amNow for something completely different from Austin Peck. Two writers must face a dilemma that is common to anyone who has ever had an artistic friend: What happens when you have to give feedback, and the news isnt good? Sam, an aspiring screenwriter, and David, a successful magazine editor, have been pals for years. When David doesnt appreciate Sams latest attempt, it opens a fissure in their friendship, one that spreads through the rest of their lives. Ultimately, both men must reevaluate their motivations to write, their need for praise and validation, and what it means to see yourself as you actually are.
