Hello Jody!

Body:

The other day while watching One Life to Live I couldn't help but notice the great chemistry between Bree Williamson's Jessica and Mark Lawson's Brody. There's just something about watching two really screwed up people bond over the bad things they've done that makes one sit up and take interest. I don't know about you but I'd love to see these two end up was a couple.

P.s. What would their squish name be Jody or Bress?

Would you like to see Brody and Jessica end up as a couple!

Belief vs. Disbelief

Belief & Disbelief

At the risk of indulging an age-old cliché or perhaps inventing a new one, real life is the soap opera that interrupts our daytime dramas.

I've been away for the last couple of weeks caring for my partner who was seriously ill for a little while (all is better now); dealing with the challenges of running a business and maintaining my livelihood in a faltering economy; consoling friends over unexpected loss in their lives and reveling in the result of a Presidential election which has left me elated and joyous in an event that I, as a Black man, never thought I would see in my lifetime. This time has been filled with hospital vigils and prayers (all answered in the affirmative), nail biting suspense, and a dash of personal intrigue. In short, the last two weeks have been a period of belief and disbelief. Continue Reading...

OLTL's Scenery Diet

Grumblings about post-40th anniversary writing on One Life to Live have been growing recently. Even Ron Carlivati's biggest fans and cheerleaders are scratching their heads about a perceived drop in quality, including some like our friend Nelson Branco and TV Guide's Michael Logan. Personally, I'm not 100% on board with that specific criticism. I think the day to day writing is pretty much OK and very entertaining, with some glaring missteps in plotting. Unfortunately, Carlivati has developed a tendency to Guza-fy it up a bit with endless repetition of some themes ("Who's your daddy?" indeed) and his Paul Rauch-era 80's fetish does get a bit tiring. But that's not my biggest gripe.

Why in Sam Hill are so many actors chewing scenery as if it were part of an all you can eat Red Lobster buffet? Seriously, ever since the 40th anniversary and the end of the Writers' Strike, every episode seems to have at least two or three actors who floated in on a lifeboat from the good ship SS Passions and docked in Llanview Harbor. But here is the thing: I don't really fault the actors. Bear with me and I'll tell you why. Continue Reading...

Tale of Two Personalities

Body:

I must admit, up until last week I hadn't been that enthused with the return of Tess (Bree Williamson) to Llanview. Yes, there were moments of brilliance but overall I hadn't bought into the story. Maybe it's that this version of Tess felt like much more of a caricature than the original incarnation but something just seemed "off."

Then last week Tess locked Natalie (Melissa Archer) in the basement of Llanfair and let loose on her twin and for the first time since Nash's funeral and the return of Tess I bought into her pain, agony and hatred.

Both Archer and Williamson put in great performances last week and deserve credit for giving the revelation of Tess return to Natalie their all. Kudos.

For all I know I could be in the minority and everyone else has been loving Tess' return but I thought it would make a good poll.

Have you been enjoying Tess return since her return or have you just recently started enjoying the Tess storyline?

One Life to Live: Nelson Branco Weighs In On BE Boardroom Reveal

This must be like when newlyweds have that first spat, after the wife burns the Hamburger Helper or the hubby leaves the toilet seat up, or perhaps it's the wife who leaves the seat up while the hubby burns the Helper? Equality rocks!

Our pal Nelson Branco revealed in this week's Nelson Ratings for TV Guide Canada  that in terms of the BE Boardroom reveal on One Life to Live, to borrow from Shania Twain, it didn't impress him much.  Don't pick up the rocks just yet, Nelson still contends that OLTL is the best soap on daytime right now, which I readily agree, but I must say I also agree that the boardroom, make that bored room,  theatrics were a little telenovela for my liking. Especially with Dorian up there in one of those outlandish hats my grandma used to wear to Sunday School attempting to pass for a corporate maven. And what was up with Cowboy Clint CHOKING Dorian? I guess chivalry died with Asa.

Maybe I expected to much? I must say, however, OLTL is giving The Bold and the Beautiful a run for its ability to rebound quickly from a not-so-good day to hitting it out of the park the following day.  Like Nelson, I was wondering what the hell was wrong with Bree Williamson (Jessica) in the scenes immediately following Nash's accident and subsequent death. Croc tears and blubbering does not a good scene make. Yet amazingly the same actress BROUGHT IT the following episode when she read her twin Natalie like a trashy novel for her role in this Greek tragedy that cost Jess her husband, Bree her father and the rest of us the infectious Forbes March.

At any rate, if you aren't watching One Life to Live, you should start now. The gripes I have are totally minor, even my primetime fave  Brothers and Sisters frustrates me at times but it's still one of the best shows around, ditto for OLTL, in daytime or primetime, only...throw away that tacky hat!
