DAYS May be Improving, but Ken Corday is Still a Blithering Idiot
Submitted by Jamey Giddens on July 4, 2009 - 9:31am

Memo to Days of Our Lives' publicity team. Put a muzzle on your figure head. Althought DAYS has been getting better these last few months— thanks, we hear, to the vision of co-excutive producer Gary Tomlin, along with co-head writer Chris Whitesell's ability to make up for Dena Hackley's shortcomings—every single time Corday opens his yap to insult his own show's fans it only confirms what a complete and utter tool Corday really is. Here's what the Soap Opera Slayer had to say to disgruntled fans of the two most popular couples in DAYS history— John and Marlena and Patch and Kayla— in this week's Soap Opera Digest:
"For the ardent John and Marlena and Patch and Kayla fans, great, you can still see them at their luncheons,. That was then, this is now." READ MORE

Crystal Chappell and Wally Kurth Come Full Circle
Submitted by Luke Kerr on June 26, 2009 - 12:15pm

In an interview with Carolyn Hinsey at New York Daily News Crystal Chappell talks about how her return to Days of Our Lives is like coming full circle.
"I am curious to see where Carly has been for 16 years. I imagine I would be part of a story with Bo and Hope. The only thing I know is that Wally Kurth is also coming back [as Justin], so I imagine I'll work with him."Which will make it old home week for them both.
"My first day on 'Days,' I took my top off for Wally, so it's full circle," she says with a laugh. "I was so new, I would have said yes to anything. 'Would you mind taking your top off?' 'Sure. Six years of Catholic school? I'm good.' I was totally not prepared for that!"
Guiding Light Actors Released as of August 14
Submitted by Jamey Giddens on June 25, 2009 - 11:47am
As most of y'all already know, because you are more Twitterific than I could ever hope to be—why don't I see when people tweet me back?! Ugh Technology!—the lovely Crystal Chappell tweeted that GL's actors have been told they won't be needed past August 14. While there hasn't been any official statement from TeleNext updating any ongoing plans to find a new home for GL, or about the proposed creation of a web-based spinoff, I think we all know what this means. However, it would sure be nice if Brian T. Cahill or Ellen Wheeler would step up, bite the bullet, and put these loyal fans out of their misery. it's the least they deserve.
The Summer Soaps Went Gay: Which Same Sex Story Has You Psyched?
Submitted by Jamey Giddens on June 23, 2009 - 8:07am

Ah the power of a recession! With daytime in an increasingly perilous state by the minute, several soap operas seem to finally be willing to pull out all the stops to attract new viewers and/or mainstream buzz by going gay, puritanical watchdog groups and skittish sponsors be damned.
As 72-year-old elder statessoap Guiding Light enters its last few months on the air, all anyone can talk about is the romance between Olivia Spencer (Crystal Chappell) and Natalia Rivera (Jessica Leccia) aka Otalia (sorry Josh and Reva). Will a baby come between them? How will the rest of Springfield react to their love? Will they be allowed to be truly intimate—or at least as intimate as any couple of teenage cousins on a P&G soap— before the soap wraps in September? These questions have message boards jumping.
GL's sister soap As The World Turns has been inspiring cult love— and a good dose of fury over kiss bans and offscreen sex scenes— for the last few years with Nuke (Van Hansis and Jake Silbermann). With Noah's psycho, homophobe dad Col. Mayer coming to Oakdale again this summer, will Nuke fans tune in for ATWT's umpteenth six-week battle between gay and evil?
The Young and the Restless, the soap everyone said would never go gay again, after an attempted lesbian storyline featuring grande dame Kay Chancellor (Jeanne Cooper) in the 70's met with plenty-o-pitch fork wielding, is about to be knee (and other body parts?) deep in a twisted, same sex storyline that finds the devilish (and perfectly straight) Adam Newman (soon-to-be Michael Muhney) seducing sweet, homosexual attorney Rafe (Yani Gellman) to keep Rafe from turning him in for gaslighting Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson).
Side Note: Isn't it sadly ironic that The Bold and the Beautiful, a soap opera revolving aroung the Los Angles fashion scene and set minutes from West Hollywood is the only CBS soap not telling any gay storylines?
Then there's One Life to Live. The soap that previously told the groundbreaking tale of confused gay teen Billy Douglas, launching the career of some kid named Ryan Phillippe, yet was also responsible for the Daniel Colson story stinker, is embarking on a romantic comedy arc featuring, a secret past between seemingly-straight Llanview police officer Fish (Scott Evans) and his nefarious collegiate frat brother Kyle (Brett Claywell).
With so many soaps getting their gay on this summer, Daytime Confidential wants to know, which storyline are you most excited to see play out?
RUMOR REPORT: Will Otalia Face A (Baby) Bump In The Road?
Submitted by Melodie on June 22, 2009 - 6:35pm
I hope all you Otalia fans are sitting down! Sources are telling Daytime Confidential Springfield's most buzzed about couple could soon be hearing the patter of little feet.
"Soon Natalia will throw up and later discover she is pregnant with Frank's baby," says the mole. "It will all happen in a few weeks."
How will Olivia deal with Frank and Natalia possibly sharing a child? Keep checking back to Daytime Confidential as this scandalous story develops!
Wishful Casting: Jessica Leccia as Rafe's Sister Arianna on DAYS
Submitted by Jamey Giddens on June 19, 2009 - 8:55pm
In Michael Fairman's new interview with Crystal Chappell for Advocate.com he mentions how awesome it would be for Days of Our Lives ot snap up the other half of the insanely popular Otalia, Jessica Leccia.
You told Jessica you were going to go back to Days. How did that go?
I did tell Jessica, and she texted me back and said, Yay! Employment. You know, that is what we all wish for each other. It was funny. I had this wonderful news breaking last Friday. I am so lucky as an actor to have a job these days, but I really thought it hit me hard. I am the first one to announce: Hey, I’m going over here, and you could kind of see that people were so happy for me, but there was a weight that fell on the group. I kind of felt it all weekend. I am vacillating between extreme relief and joy and excitement about going back and trying something old and making it new again. At the same time I was feeling devastated. So, it was this weird emotional breakup at some level. READ MORE
Carly Revisited
Submitted by Jamey Giddens on June 18, 2009 - 9:28pm
Okay, it's almost a week later, and anytime I blog about the subject of Crystal Chappell returning to Days Of Our Lives, I am STILL getting the type of goose pimples Carrie Bradshaw had when she first spied Heaven on 5th! Michael Fairman has a mini interview with the ravishing beauty up as part of his new bi-weekly column Soapside. A full exclusive interview with Chappell will be published on Friday at Advocate.com. Here's just a taste of what Chappell had to say to Fairman:

My absence from Daytime Confidential lately has not been due to the usual business of family and work taking up a lot of my time, but rather a certain lack energy to post about practically any of the daytime serials that clog up my DVR from day to day. This is neither a positive nor a negative thing because there are frequent periods throughout the year when shows kind of coast along and do their their thing, usually between sweeps.
At these times, there is little for the viewer — if that viewer is me — to get all worked up about this plot twist, that character's action, some couple or another or even a whole show's direction. Normally, this state of affairs hits one or two shows at a time. Every once in a while like the last couple of weeks, the stars align and all the serials get caught in the same momentum of drift. All that is required of us is to watch and see where it all goes.
In that spirit, my brain plays a little game of soap opera hopscotch, taking in odds and ends big and small. There is no great elaboration on anything here, just a quick rundown of things I like and not like so much. Your mileage may vary... READ MORE
