ATWT Preview: New Year's Eve with Nuke

Check out this preview clip from Tuesday's episode of As the World Turns where Luke (Van Hansis) and Noah (Jake Silbermann) celebrate New Year's Eve at Metro. A really sweet scene... before all the drama that's coming their way.

Do You Like Your Luke Sweet or Sour on ATWT?

Body:

In a recent interview with Michael Fairman, the amazingly-talented Van Hansis talks about all things Nuke, not to mention what it's been like to take the usually sanctimonious Luke Snyder down a darker path post the student body elections and kissing his Paw Paw on As The World Turns.

I think Luke is inherently a good guy, but you can’t be good all the time. You have to tell compelling stories, and be compelling as an actor. Your character needs to have flaws, and this storyline brought out the major flaws in Luke’s character, which is based on his history. He can be self-righteous, and does not think things through. He has a tendency to think he knows what’s better for people than they do. When things don’t go his way he gets petulant instead of trying to solve the problems. It was great to play all of that, and it was great for me. I thought everything that happens with Brian now comes out of essentially Luke deciding to run for school president. It’s a longer story arc built into chapters from the election. It’s a really good story!"

What do you think, should Luke continue on to becoming a gay Darth Vader, or do we like him more as Oakdale's answer to a same-sex Anakin Skywalker? (Who says I don't know my sci-fi?)  After you vote check out the rest of Fairman's interview with Hansis at MichaelFairmanSoaps.com.

ATWT Preview: Christmas With Luke And Noah

Check out this sweet preview scene from Monday's episode of As the World Turns where Noah (Jake Silbermann) gives Luke (Van Hansis) his Christmas present.

Bad Daddies

We like to joke about how As the World Turns is a schizophrenic show but today it really did seem as if ATWT had at long last rounded the bend to multiple personality syndrome or, as fans of One Life to Live know it all too well, dissociative identity disorder.

BAD DADDY #1

On one hand, we had a series of terrific scenes between Luke (Van Hansis) & Brian (Laurence Lau). The Gay Snyder  finally had a heart to heart with his step grandfather about The Kiss.  Not only did Brian finally admit to kissing Luke after weeks of trying to convince Luke that he'd misinterpreted what had happened, Brian even went so far as to admit that he found Luke attractive. "Who wouldn't?," added Grandpa Down Low. Continue Reading...

InFANity: Behind the Scenes at As the World Turns

TV Guide Network's InFANity was on the set of As the World Turns for a look behind the scenes and to interview the cast. It's obvious that they've used old and new material, because they used a couple of interviews with Martha Byrne. Some of the other stars that were interviewed are Van Hansis, Jake Silbermann, Colleen Zenk Pinter, Marie Wilson, Billy Magnussen and Michael Park. Parts 2, 3 and 4 after the jump. Between a Rock and a Hard Place

Merriam Webster defines melodrama as

a work (as a movie or play) characterized by extravagant theatricality and by the predominance of plot and physical action over characterization.

With that in mind, I have to say I thought today's episode of As the World Turns was rock 'em sock 'em old school melodramatics, which is not a bad thing every once in a while! The events of today's episode weren't so much about advancing characterization as it was an opportunity for several plots to move forward, a few actors to shine, and history to replay itself. Although events on all fronts transpired at warp speed (as usual), they were still intriguing and a few managed to surprise!

Rating The Young Uns: Why Soaps Could Use More Actors Like Blake Berris And Less Hair Models

Okay you knew it was coming. Now that the Idiots In Charge of The-Soap-Opera-Formerly-Known-as-Days-of-Our-Lives have let the phenomenal Blake Berris go, I decided to start out doing a Wishful Casting about where Berris should end up, but it turned into more of an analysis of which soaps are managing to set things up for their next generation the right way, and which ones are getting it wrong, dead wrong.

Much of the daytime industry is experiencing a serious drought in terms of talented, young stars who can actually, you know, act. Save for The Young and the Restless, One Life to Live and General Hospital, the under 30 set at most soaps is pretty much comprised of rejects from the Pamela Anderson School of Acting and Pantomime.  I'll start with the soaps in most need of help and work my way up. 2nd Annual Project Holiday Spirit Campaign

"Nuke" fans launch 2nd Annual Project Holiday Spirit campaign in honor of Van Hansis and Jake Silbermann

November 25, 2008—As a tribute to "As the World Turns" actors Van Hansis and Jake Silbermann, fans at vanhansis.net announce the second annual "Project Holiday Spirit" campaign (PHS) in support of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. For 2007's campaign, "Nuke" fans set a fundraising goal of $500, but raised well over $6,000! Bolstered by the success of PHS, fans continued to work together, ultimately contributing over $35,000 to 10 different charities in less than 12 months.

The first campaign was launched on December 1, 2007 (World AIDS Day) and was originally inspired by a blog by Hansis about the holidays. Fans decided to embrace the true spirit of the holidays by helping others, and the campaign became a meaningful way for them to acknowledge the positive impact Van and Jake have had on so many lives.

Fans have decided to kick off another year of charitable giving by making this very special tribute an annual holiday tradition. This year's PHS campaign once again begins on World AIDS Day, December 1, 2008, with the goal of surpassing last year's total. Fans invite everyone to join them in honoring Van and Jake by donating to this very worthy cause. Continue Reading...
