It appears Soap Opera Mafia Don/Days of Our Lives executive producer Ken Corday had three name actors lined up to replace Jay Kenneth Johnson as Philip Kiriakis had Corday's strong arm tactics to scare the actor not worked. Reliable sources reveal Dylan Bruce (ex-Chris, ATWT), Jon Prescott (ex-Mike, ATWT) and Josh Duhon (ex-Logan, GH) all tested for the role of Philip Kiriakis. However, Johnson did indeed sign a new contract.

This just in. A source close to the set of Days of Our Lives says news of Jay Kenneth Johnson (Philip) leaving the sudser has proven premature.

"Jay is back!" says the source. "It was all just a stupid misunderstanding."

The source also reveals Peter Reckell (Bo) and Kristian Alfonso (Hope) agreed to take massive pay cuts.

"And good for them!" says the source. "It says a lot about Peter and Kristian for them to do that. It says that they are team players and want the show to succeed."

Brace yourselves Days fans. The casting blood bath that started with Jay Kenneth Johnson clearing out his dressing room and top stars Deidre Hall and Drake Hogestyn being written out is just the beginning, says reliable sources.

"Don't be surprised if you hear some more big names that will shock your readers," said one source. "[Days] really hasn't figured out how to adapt with the changing times. It's really sad."

As sad as I am to hear about the reported contract woes of Jay Kenneth Johnson —of course Days would go after its popular stars who play core character first, instead of getting rid of wastes of airtime like Molly Burnett, or actors with no ties to the canvas like Shawn Christian—you know me, the soap must go on!

If the brass at Days doesn't come to their senses and manage to make a deal to keep Johnson, I think former General Hospital baddie Josh Duhon (ex-Logan) would make a kick ass Philip Kiriakis. Duhon was instantly popular on General Hospital before being sacrificed at the altar of Johnny and Lulu's budding romance. Soap Opera Digest is reporting that contract negotiations between Days of Our Lives and Jay Kenneth Johnson have broken down and the actor has cleared out his dressing room. Reportedly, Days is looking to recast the role.

This news comes after word was announced that Days of Our Lives has been renewed but that the show would be making some "onscreen changes."
