Sisters Clash and Time Runs Out on Gotham!
By Jamey Giddens on March 01, 2010Catherine (Martha Byrne) is considering calling Richard (Michael Park) for old time's sake, much to the chagrin of her controlling sister Claire (Melanie Smith) on the latest installment of Gotham. Meanwhile, time is running out for Richard. Will gun-wielding mobster Dominic (Paolo Seganti)— who is growing weary of waiting for his money— harm Richard, or his daughter Rachel (Caroline Byrne), or will moneyed sexualite Sheila Stevens (Maggie Reed) save the day? Delicious, soapy fun. Why couldn't P&G give Byrne the reigns of As The World Turns before it was too late?

Martha Byrne's Gotham Begins to Gel
By Jamey Giddens on February 01, 2010Okay, I will readily admit, when God was handing out the virtue of patience, I was probably somewhere yelling at a heavenly microwave to hurry up. A few weeks back I blogged that Martha Byrne's web soap opera Gotham was "really, really boring", and, well, it was. At least it was then. In tonight's episode, however things begin to shape up quite noticeably, and I couldn't be happier. READ MORE

Gotham, We Have a Problem
By Jamey Giddens on January 05, 2010There's an old theater adage that says drama should be life without the boring parts. For webisodic soap operas, that saying holds true more than ever before. With just a few short minutes to tell a dramatic story, every second counts if you are hoping to hook Internet viewers with the attention span of breeding rabbits on crack. Unfortunately, Martha Byrne's new series Gotham is falling a bit short in this endeavor.
Now before anyone races to the comments section to join in for a good, old-fashioned, patented Jamey Giddens rip apart session, that isn't what this is. I want Gotham to succeed. I want to like this show, not just because I admire Byrne greatly, and truly believe she is trying to give disenchanted soap opera viewers what we want, but also because the sky is literally falling in terms of our beloved daytime soap operas. Just look at the depressing Nielsens report this week. READ MORE
Catherine and Richard Connect in Gotham #3
By Mike Jubinville on December 22, 2009
Gotham the Series aired its third installment last night and there were improvements right from the start. The music in the opening sequence was moody, and there were snippets of the two previous episodes. After a little nudge from Anne Sayre's Tina at the beginning, it was all Martha Byrne and Michael Park.
The short episodes make for slow moving action. It was 45 seconds before anything happened and it was all over in little more than three minutes. It's enough to keep me engaged in the conversation, but certainly not long enough to feel as connected as Catherine and Richard do. I need more! Byrne and Park do have great chemistry however, and it is clear that they have a great off-screen friendship as it comes across in their scenes. As always, I have problems adjusting to the shaky camera. What do you think of the web series? Catch the latest episode after the jump. READ MORE
