Wishful Casting: Don Diamont as Kendall's First Love Anton on All My Children!
Submitted by Jamey Giddens on December 1, 2008 - 6:24pm.
I have to say I am fairly shocked to hear that Don Diamont (Brad) is leaving The Young and the Restless. This has to be the first major flag on the play for the new Dream Team behind CBS's rejuvenated sudser.
Diamont has long been one of the biggest draws for the soap and fans were looking forward to finally seeing his relationship with Sharon (Sharon Case) explored. Then there is the fact that his adopted daughter Abby is rumored to be returning to town as a teenager soon, which would no doubt reignite Brad's bitterness toward Victor (Eric Braeden), whose sperm was famously stolen by Brad's ex-wife Ashley (Eileen Davidson) to produce the tyke. Rating The Young Uns: Why Soaps Could Use More Actors Like Blake Berris And Less Hair Models
Submitted by Jamey Giddens on November 26, 2008 - 2:13pm.
Okay you knew it was coming. Now that the Idiots In Charge of The-Soap-Opera-Formerly-Known-as-Days-of-Our-Lives have let the phenomenal Blake Berris go, I decided to start out doing a Wishful Casting about where Berris should end up, but it turned into more of an analysis of which soaps are managing to set things up for their next generation the right way, and which ones are getting it wrong, dead wrong.
Much of the daytime industry is experiencing a serious drought in terms of talented, young stars who can actually, you know, act. Save for The Young and the Restless, One Life to Live and General Hospital, the under 30 set at most soaps is pretty much comprised of rejects from the Pamela Anderson School of Acting and Pantomime. I'll start with the soaps in most need of help and work my way up. Continue Reading...

"At Least She's A Girl!" Eden Riegel Dishes AMC Return, Tams and Future of IB with Daytime Confidential
Submitted by Jamey Giddens on September 22, 2008 - 4:23pm.
Every so often a story breaks that reminds you why you haven't deleted the entire daytime soap lineup from your DVR. This past week such a development took place. ABC/SOAPnet announced the unforgettable Eden Riegel would be reprising her groundbreaking role as Bianca on All Ryan Lavery's Children. If that wasn't reason enough to make a pilgrimage to Mount Soap-Olympus, Binks will be coming home with a new lady love named Reese, played by none other than this blogger's all-time favorite General Hospital heroine Tamara Braun (ex-Carly). Talk about Gay Paree!
I must admit my excitement was initially mixed with a bit of panic . As much as I can't wait to see the Emmy-winning Riegel share screentime with "My Tamara"—as I affectionately started referring to Braun years ago on the SOAPnet GH message board —I was concerned with what Riegel's return would mean for
Imaginary Bitches, the show that singlehandedly made me give a damn about webisodic television. Not to worry, the lovely Riegel quieted all my fears and provided Daytime Confidential with some awesome insight into how Bink's return came about, whether or not Maggie is next and the future of Imaginary Bitches.Daytime Confidential: Congrats on reprising your role as Bianca! How did it come about? Continue Reading...
Nuke vs. Rianca, Improving Daytime?
Submitted by Luke Kerr on September 18, 2008 - 6:15pm.

The single best thing to happen to As the World Turns and All My Children over the past five years may have taken place when All My Children announced that Eden Riegel is returning to Pine Valley and bringing Tamara Braun along with her, as Bianca's new girlfriend.
Its been said that "competition breeds innovation" and for the sake of both shows let's hope it's true. All My Children bringing on a lesbian "power couple" in the form of Bianca and Reese will force As the World Turns to get up off its ass, get rid of the alleged Nuke backburning policy and write a meaningful story for Van Hansis and Jake Silbermann. If it doesn't, As the World Turns will find itself in the unenviable position of being the soap that wasted away one of daytime's most popular couples (their first kiss has 1.5 million hits on Youtube).
Unlike Luke and Noah, who have never slept together, we've seen Bianca in bed with another woman, but the show wrote Bianca into a corner. When fans demanded that Bianca make Babe pay for her crimes The Powers That Be wrote her as a patron saint. When fans begged for a the return of Maggie, Lena or a viable romantic love interest The Powers That Be pulled a "ripped from the headlines" story and gave us Zarf.
For All My Children the return of Bianca and the introduction of Reese provides an opportunity for redemption, when telling of a gay story. ABC fans familiar with Tamara Braun on General Hospital will be tuning in to see her. Longtime All My Children fans will want to know how Bianca fell in love with Reese and why. Granted, the arrival of Eden and Tamara in of itself doesn't guarantee a quality storyline, but it does give All My Children a clean slate on which to build a potentially great story.
It may be to much hope that having two popular gay couples, on rival soaps, will force both shows to write the best storylines they can, but for the time being I am.
Do you think Nuke vs. Rianca will be good for All My Children and As the World Turns?
