Thorsten Kaye's passion for Hockey is well known, so is it much of a surprise to spot him at the NHL Winter Classic on January 1st at Wrigley Field watching the Detroit Red Wings vs. Chicago Blackhawks?

I have to say I am fairly shocked to hear that Don Diamont (Brad) is leaving The Young and the Restless. This has to be the first major flag on the play for the new Dream Team behind CBS's rejuvenated sudser.

Diamont has long been one of the biggest draws for the soap and fans were looking forward to finally seeing his relationship with Sharon (Sharon Case) explored. Then there is the fact that his adopted daughter Abby is rumored to be returning to town as a teenager soon, which would no doubt reignite Brad's bitterness toward Victor (Eric Braeden), whose sperm was famously stolen by Brad's ex-wife Ashley (Eileen Davidson) to produce the tyke. I would be willing to bet that the most terrible words for daytime executives is "lapsed viewer." One might think that "cancellation" would be at the top of that list, but when a show goes off the air it is essentially a period at the end of sentence with everyone eventually moving on to something else. One also might think "lost viewers" might rank high, but the top brass is keenly aware that the television world has changed; viewers who have exited stage right have either different things to do or are far more selective with their viewing choices, two things that often go hand in hand.

As it turns out, the "lapsed viewer" is the elusive "independent" or "undecided" voters of the daytime world. Not unlike presidential hopefuls, network executives, producers and head writers stumble all over themselves to reel these people in to a new show or back into the fold of an old one. Daytime Confidential reader Gush900 sent us this great clip of Eileen Herlie's Myrtle with Thorsten Kaye's Zach Slater. This was truly one of All My Children's greatest relationships of the past ten years. Eileen will be greatly missed. This is a sad, sad day.

Another daytime legend has passed away. Yesterday news broke that Edge of Night and Another World alum Irene Dailey had died. Today, Pine Valley Bulletin has confirmed the passing of Eileen Herlie (Myrtle Fairgate, All My Children). She was 90.

Herlie joined AMC in 1976 as gutsy carny Myrtle, whose boarding house would prove home to generations of the show's young adult cast. Since the death of Erica Kane's mother Mona ( the late Frances Heflin), Myrtle has served as a surrogate mother to La Kane (Susan Lucci) and grandmother figure for her daughters Kendall (Alicia Minshew) and Bianca (Eden Riegel). She has also been a constant supporter of Kendall's husband Zach (Thorsten Kaye).

In a surprise plot twist and history re-write a few years back, we learned Myrtle also had a daughter of her very own, Rae Cummings (Linda Dano) and a grandaughter, Skye (Robin Christopher), who had actually lived in Pine Valley alongside Myrtle for many years with neither the wiser. Check out the One Life to Live table at tonight's Emmy Awards. Did anyone else notice that All My Children's Thorsten Kaye is sitting at the One Life to Live table with Susan Haskell and not vice versa? Interesting, very interesting. 

Who knew Thorsten Kaye, All My Children's Zack Slater, was a Detroit Red Wings fan? Thorsten is an avid rugby and hockey fan and is chronicling the Detroit Red Wings run for the Stanley Cup...which they seem to be doing very well against the Pittsburg Penguins. I'm jealous already as Thorsten has met legends of the National Hockey League including all-time coaching great Scotty Bowman (pictured above with Kaye) and the "Terrible" Ted Lindsay.

When reading through his blog and interviews, I'm quite amazed by Thorsten's thorough knowledge of hockey history...very impressive. Also you can check out the Stanley Cup final series between the Red Wings & the Penguins tonight with Detroit leading the best of seven series 2 games to 0.

A Cambias scorned. Sott-spoken private eye Aidan Devane (Aiden Turner) better be ready for some gnarly office politics when he goes to work at Cambias next week on All My Children. Spoilers indicate Aidan will be shocked to learn his first assignment has him headed off to the war-torn Sudan to rescue a mystery hostage. What, he doesn't read Daytime Confidential.com?

Aidan is hand picked for this risky assignment by Zach (Thorsten Kaye) who is secretly fuming over Devane's coital comfort of Zach's wife Kendall (Alicia Minshew), while Zach and Aidan's lady love Greenlee (Rebecca Budig) were missing in action. Geesh, couldn't he have just taken the guy on Springer and confronted him?

As previously spoiled, this storyline is to facilitate the introduction of Ricky Paull Goldin to the AMC canvas as Dr. Joey "Jake" Martin. How much are you willing to bet that Jake will pay Aidan back by bedding his girl Greenlee sometime in the near future? I'm just glad to see Aiden Turner front and center. I know a lot of soap critics aren't impressed with the actor or his character but I've always thought Aidan would be a great super hero if paired with the right leading lady. Unfortunately the closest thing we've ever had to that was his promising pairing with Sabine Singh's version of Greenlee Smythe. Not that I blame ABC one bit for bringing back Budig, the actress who made the role famous, but her return was bittersweet. Hmmm, perhaps Anna's nephew could spin off to General Hospital and that show could bring Sabine on as Liz's older sister Sarah? Just a teeny bit of Wishful Casting.
