With word that NBC has canceled Lipstick Jungle one just knows that Brian Frons has popped a bottle of champagne. It is this hunch, and this groundless hunch alone that we here at Daytime Confidential are taking a preemptive strike by starting the return of Vanessa Marcil to General Hospital rumors ourselves before it has a chance to be splashed on any magazine cover with a misleading headline. Let the rumors begins!

ABC Studios has pulled the plug on the highly-anticipated Alyssa Milano sitcom Single With Parents due to "creative differences" among the show's producers, says The Hollywood Reporter. Rumors had the Who's The Boss? and Melrose Place alum atop the list to recreate the role of General Hospital's Brenda Barrett just prior to her booking the sitcom deal, on the strength of her career-reviving turn in the Lifetime TV movie Wisegal.

Since it doesn't look like Vanessa Marcil is returning anytime soon and GH is currently in a ratings free fall, I say ABC daytime honcho Brian Frons should offer Milano the sun, moon and even an uncontested spot on Dancing With the Stars in order to get her on GH before VH1 can attempt to help her find love. Milano is one of a select few actresses who could fully embody the character of Brenda Barrett with the same spunk and spirit of Marcil's original interpretation. Recast Brenda already! I love Marcil, but the show, er soap must go on!

How's this for a soapy twist? Vanessa Marcil's upcoming Lifetime reality show Blush: The Search for the Next Great Makeup Artist was pitched by none other than Procter and Gamble's media arm MediaVest to promote P&G's Max Factor brand, according to Ad Age. The article goes on to talk about how aggressively P&G is moving into "branded content". Ummmm, haven't they had oh, say 70 years of success with that already with its soap operas? Remember them?

Now before we go all conspiracy theory with thoughts of this being an elaborate smokescreen  to get ABC Daytime's Most Anticipated Promotional Campaign—"The one star you thought would never be desperate enough to come back!"—in at As The World Turns as the next Chris Hughes (Hey, they've tried everyone else in the part.), it is fairly common place for P&G to sell their goods to various other networks and cable channels besides CBS. She played a model on TV and now Vanessa Marcil (Brenda, General Hospital) will host the new Lifetime series Blush: The Search for the Next Great Make-Up Artist. According to We Love Soaps, the Emmy winner's latest project kicks off on Tuesday, November 11, 2008.

In each episode of BLUSH: THE SEARCH FOR THE NEXT GREAT MAKE-UP ARTIST, the contestants, all living under one roof in Los Angeles, compete in two different make-up competitions, designed to test the skills and personality traits - including compassion and confidence - necessary for success in the field. Following the second challenge, one contestant will be eliminated.

It's the last day of September, my birthday month coming to a close so let's end it with a little Liason. Kate's been shot, obviously the trip to Italy is off...where will the angst filled couple go from here? As I've mentioned, Jason uses a visual aid, Kate in her hospital bed, to try to get through to Elizabeth. She walks out of the room and he thinks she's finally got the message loud and clear. Boy oh boy are boys dumb! Elizabeth pops up at Jason's office and informs him otherwise. She's here to stay. The paint fight is coming and the injury I mentioned yesterday? Well it looks like Jason hurts his ankle or leg. Will Elizabeth nurse him back to health? More meetings coming up for my favorite pair. They'll meet at the Studio before she pops in at his office.

Anthony in the balcony with a rifle. That was the easiest game of Clue ever! Claudia tells the fam that Karpov is innocent and she'll go to Sonny with the assurance that the Z's had nothing to do with Kate's shooting. Bob Guza is still talking and I once again ask, should we listen?  The General Hospital head writer gave a few comments to Soap Opera Digest about two lovely ladies that all General Hospital fans love. 

Once again, the Vanessa Marcil (Brenda Barrett) RUMORS are teased by Guza.  He says Vanessa "wants to make it happen."  The head scribe also talks Finola Hughes (Anna Devane) promising that there is more to come from the super spy.  Here's hoping that it's true, as most fans agree her "big summer storyline" needed a microscope for better viewing. 

What else is Guza talking about?  Apparently he tells the mag why Logan Hayes (played by Josh Duhon) had to die.  Look for Bob Guza's comments in the September 11, 2008 issue.

Does this put the Brenda RUMORS to rest?  Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Vanessa Marcil (Brenda, General Hospital; Las Vegas) is joining the cast of Lipstick Jungle in a recurring role.  Staying put at the Peacock, Marcil landed the role of Josie, a music manager.

Working both sides?  Remember we mentioned a hole in Jason's organization?  RUMORS suggest that one of Jason's employees may be playing on both sides of the fence. Is it his new hire, Cody Paul?

An inside source has revealed that Vanessa Marcil's return to General Hospital and/or its SOAPnet spinoff General Hospital: Night Shift could be put on hold due to the fact that the actress has booked a movie.

"It's still a possibility," says the source.

Word is Marcil, who once starred opposite Nicholas Cage in The Rock, may have told GH headwriter Bob Guza she would return, then ultimately landed the movie role.
