One Life to Live

DC #528: Brett Claywell Interview

In his first podcast interview since being kished to the curb. One Life to Live's Brett Claywell talks with Daytime Confidential.com's Luke Kerr, Jamey Giddens and Jillian Bowe on the heels of his shocking firing. The talented and passionate young actor, who moved across country to assume the role of Schuyler Joplin, only to cede that role to Scott Clifton, before being cast as nefarious lab tech-turned-gay med student Kyle Lewis, talks about what it was like to find out from OLTL show runner Frank Valentini that he was being let go from the series.

Hear Claywell in his own words as he shares his thoughts on the powerful work he and leading man Scott Evans (Oliver Fish) accomplished, and why he doesn't want to let any of the negativity surrounding their exits take away from a story he says will stay with him for the rest of his life. Claywell also addresses the myriad of allegations lobbied against him and Evans in the media. Does he feel they are to blame for OLTL's viewer erosion? What about their rumored misbehavior on set? Claywell addresses it all. He also talks about if we will ever see him reunite with Evans in a movie or web series, ala Guiding Light's Crystal Chappell and Jessica Leccia, who now star opposite each other in Venice. This is the podcast interview every Kish fan has been dying to download.

Don't miss tomorrow's episode of The View when Sherri Shepherd and Elisabeth Hasselbeck give One Life to Live's John-Paul Lavoisier a pajama makeover. Shut yo' mouth, OLTL being pimped on The View? Well it's about doggone time!

DC #527: OLTL's Kish-tastrophy

On today's special episode of Daytime Confidential Luke, Jamey, Jillian and Regan weigh in on One Life to Live's shocking dismissal of Brett Claywell and Scott Evans and the end of the soap's popular, groundbreaking Kish love story.

From the quote about Kish not resonating "with the mainstream audience" that has outraged so many fans, to the multiple storylines that have contributed to OLTL's low ratings, DC digs into all the latest in this continuing saga.

The DC gang explores why OLTL seems to be cleaning house of the very minority stars and young talent which has afforded the ratings-challenged sudser such critical acclaim. We pose the question, what has happened to the diversity Agnes Nixon created this show to reflect?

We also ponder, should Brett and Scott return if ABC offers? Do TPTB really think they are giving the majority of the fans what they want, while destroying the show in the process? Jamey wonders, will the move to oust Kish be Frank Valentini's Maureen Bauer moment? What, if anything, can OLTL do to turn things around in Llanview?

No other topic since Daytime Confidential.com's inception, from Guiding Light's cancellation to Victoria Rowell's shocking tell-all interview, has received such a vocal response from Daytime Confidential readers and listeners. More podcast fans have called in to our hotline about OLTL's Kish-trastropy than about the firings of Drake Hogestyn, Deidre Hall, Mary Beth Evans and Stephen Nichols at Days of our Lives. Listen to fans voice their opinions about the controversy at the end of the episode. This is truly an episode Llanview lovers won't wanna miss.

One Life to Live's Scott Evans Found Out He Was Being Kished Out on Twitter!

Brett Claywell is continuing to stand up for himself and screen partner Scott Evans in the wake of their shady ouster from One Life to Live, this time to Zap2It. While Claywell takes the highroad when discussing the  TPTB TIIC, he does shame them for the way he and Evans found out they were being Kished to the curb.

We found out separately. I found out the day before the story broke; I was at "One Life to Live" because I was submitting my Emmy reel. And the same day I'm submitting my Emmy reel, Frank [Valentini] tells me that they're no longer continuing the storyline and that I've filmed my last day.

I do believe there's a certain way that things have to be done to protect the machine, and there are certain things that could be done differently. Scott found out through somebody tweeting him, and absolutely, that's not the way he should've found out. It shouldn't happen that way. READ MORE

ABC Planning a "Midday" Talk Show, Part Good Morning America, Part The View?

Well I had a little talk with Jesus... The New York Observer is reporting that ABC is considering the idea of developing a "midday news and lifestyle program" that would be one part Good Morning America and one part The View. The part I wanna know about, is where would it go on the daytime lineup?

How ABC stations would fit the new show into their daytime line-up remains unclear--and it's still a strong possibility that the project will fizzle out long before it ever makes it onto the air.

The article goes on to say a greenlight for the project probably won't happen any time soon, but it seems ABC is steadily developing new programming for it's daypart.

OLTL's Brett Claywell to Fancast: "I’m Angry, It’s Slander"

Fancast's Sara Bibel spoke with ex-One Life to Live star Brett Claywell about rumors he and his former onscreen partner Scott Evans (Fish) were both fired for negative behavior on set. Claywell fights back and clears the air.

There was a column in TV Guide Canada that alleges that you two were written off for performance issues.  I wanted to give you the opportunity to respond to that.

Scott informed me of that yesterday.  It’s amazing to me that two people can put so much of their heart into a story that can be so passionate and serious and tell a story as honestly and as truthfully as we tried to and just open our hearts to the world and just try to make a difference, try and touch people and stories like this will come out that are absolutely, 100% false.  I’d love for anyone to watch one day of any of the work we’ve done and tell me that Scott and I were not 100% committed to what we were doing.  We were so dedicated to our work. It’s hurtful.  I’m really offended that someone would make completely false claims.  I’m angry.  It’s slander.

It struck me that if you were being unprofessional, you probably wouldn’t have gotten an Emmy pre-nomination.

One of the last days that Scott and I worked together, the argument scene that just aired two weeks ago when I had the DNA test, we had all these scenes that were from different episodes, 41 pages of dialogue that Scott and I filmed in maybe an hour and a half.  We work so methodically together and so well together.  We would film scenes in one take like everybody does.  You ask the directors we worked with.  The fact that you can spend a year and a half pouring your heart into a story and one person with one article can try to bruise that reputation you have, it’s disheartening and it’s offensive. Brett Claywell on OLTL Exit: "Scott and I Were Nothing But Professional"

Brett Claywell confronted rumors surrounding his exit from One Life to Live to Soap Opera Digest.

In response to the rumors that it was one actor's partying and the other's busy schedule that led to them being let go, Claywell laughs, "It's so false it's slander. Scott and I were nothing but professional and completely 100 percent dedicated to our work."
